Q: How often do I need to renew my license?
A: A standard teaching license will need to be renewed every 5 years.
Trainings:
Q: What training do I need as a certified employee?
A: Certified employees are required to have the following trainings:
- Bloodborne Pathogens (annual)
- Hazard Communication: Right to Understand (annual)
- Mandatory Reporter: Dependent Adult Abuse (every 3 years)
- Mandatory Reporter: Child Abuse (every 3 years)
- Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) (annual)
- Youth Suicide: Awareness, Prevention, and Postvention (annual)
- Concussion Training (yearly, expires June 30th each year – coaches only)

Q: Who is considered a certified employee?
A: Certified employees are employees that must have a certificate that proves they have obtained the necessary credentials and knowledge for the position. These include teachers, admins, coaches, nurses, counselors, teacher-librarians, and substitute teachers.
Q: How do I renew my training certificates?
A: You can renew your Bloodborne Pathogen, Hazard Communication: Right to Understand, and Suicide Prevention/Postvention certificate through VectorSolutions (formerly SafeSchools) at https://monticello-ia.safeschools.com/
You can renew your Bloodborne Pathogen, Right to Know, ACEs, Mandatory Reporter, and Suicide Prevention training certificates online through the AEA Professional Development Online Learning System by going to their website: https://training.aealearningonline.org/index_login.php.

Q: Does the district need a copy of the certificate from my training?
A: Yes. We require a certificate, or a copy of the certificate of completion of all trainings to have in your employee file.

Q: Am I eligible for health insurance?
A: To be eligible for district paid health insurance, you must work for an average of thirty (30) hours per week.
Q: Who is eligible for Long Term Disability Insurance?
A: The Board of Education will provide a Long Term Disability insurance benefit for employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week.
Q: What Voluntary Benefits are there and who is eligible?
A: Voluntary benefits are offered to any employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week. These include Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, Short-Term Disability Insurance, Accident Insurance, Critical Illness w/ Cancer Insurance, or Hospital Indemnity Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, Voluntary Group Life Insurance, Identity Theft Protection/Legal Guard, and 403B Retirement Investment.
Q: What is IPERS and who is eligible?
A: IPERS stands for Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System. This is a required retirement system for all employees. This is not offered to substitutes.
Q: When is open enrollment?
A: Open enrollment occurs in May of each year for changes effective July 1st. Any other changes throughout the year will require proof of a qualifying event.

Q: When/How often do we get paid?
A: We are paid monthly on the 25th unless the 25th lands on, or during a school holiday, school break (other than summer), or a weekend. If this is the case, we are paid on the last previous working day.

A: The following groups are eligible for paid holidays if they work a minimum of 30 hours per week:
Administrative Assistant, Special Programs Assistant, Custodians, Maintenance, Mechanic, District Office/HR Secretary, General Laborer/Office Clerk, District System Administrator: New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve Day.
Building Secretaries: New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve Day. (High School Secretaries Only – Independence Day).
