Hello all,
After visiting each elementary school twice today, and looking closely at the weather forecast for tomorrow, I have decided to dismiss Shannon and Carpenter at noon on Thursday. I know that it feels better outside today compared to earlier in the week but those old buildings hold heat and there is no air circulation. Today we sent more kids home with heat related symptoms than Monday and Tuesday combined. Between the heat and humidity, it has been very hot, even with the early dismissals this week. The heat index is projected to be 97 tomorrow afternoon and that does not create an appropriate learning environment for our students.
The Middle School and the High School will continue as normal and dismiss at 3:15pm. We are asking elementary parents to pick up their students at Noon at their school building on Thursday. For students that are not picked up at Noon, we will find an air-conditioned place until a parent arrives, the buses arrive at 3:15pm, or when Panther Academy opens at 3:15pm.
The good news is that relief is around the corner. Friday and into next week looks to be a better forecast for our elementary schools. Please remember to send a water bottle with your student to help them stay hydrated.
Thank you!
